Was this the sign that could have been advertised at Le Mans in the 1950's? A great historical motorbike and car enthusiast vintage Avon Tyres enamel original sign.
Avon Tyres Original Car and Motorbike Enamel Sign
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION & HISTORY
The colours are still quite good for this early to mid 20th Century sign and it is all original including some of the usual scratches. It has come up a treat after a clean and still would be a "must have" on any mancave, workshop, garage or for the petroliana collector.
"Avon" has a very interesting history from manufacturing clothes, gas masks, golf balls but their reputation established themselves as leaders of rubber based products. Their first car tyres were advertised in 1906 in the UK and between 1958 and 1963 every world solo motorcycle champion chose "Avon tyres" and many world records were broken with machines fitted with Avon tyres. It was purported that an Aston Martin won the Le Mans World Car Sports Car Championships with Avon Tyres fitted during that time.
Avon today has branched out into other countries and industries including protective gear, dairy industry, engineered fabrications, electronics and off course still rubber.
