PRODUCT DESCRIPTION & HISTORY
For all lovers of tea here is a great little double-sided part flanged blue and gold Lyons' Tea Sold Here sign. It is in good condition with some scratches and chips and usual rust for an older sign.
Lyons' Tea was named after Joseph Lyons, who with his brother in laws developed Lyons' Corner Houses with the first tea house opening at Piccadilly in London in 1894. They took their hands too in building up "high class" restaurants - The Trocadero, The Strand, The Regent Palace and Cumberland Hotel between 1895 and 1933 all in London. From the 1930's Lyons' developed teas, biscuits and cakes which were sold all over the world.
Some of their slogans used in their enamel advertising included "A Packet for every Pocket - Lyons' Tea Always the best" or "Always the Best Lyons' Tea the Tea of Teashop Fame". All of the Lyons' enamel signs are very sought after and a "must" for any tea lover or private collector.
